WORKSHOP OUTLINE:

WELCOME and INTRO:
- What are the typical Types of Presentations an author should be comfortable doing?
- Knowing Your Audience – different types of audiences and how do we prepare for a specific audience vs. a general one by Greg Blake Miller

Professional actor ANTHONY DIMARIA will discuss:
- Aspects of Projecting Self -
- Syncing Into Your Characters -
- Body Language – what you’re telling by showing from an actor’s perspective

Toastmaster, Author and award winning journalist BRIAN GARDNER will discuss:
- How To Build The Self-Confidence To Speak In Front Of An Audience -
- How To Engage An Audience -
- Tips on Finding Topics  -
- Relaxation Tips -
- Review of Reading Risks (handout)

PANEL DISCUSSION and AUDIENCE Q&A with Anthony and Brian

VOLUNTEERS WILL BE ASKED TO READ THE SAME 250-500 WORD EXCERPT
followed by OPEN DISCUSSION AFTER EACH READER ABOUT WHAT DID AND/OR DIDN’T WORK

Write a summary of your book; find a section of your book to read; write a brief bio about yourself, tell us what your book is about; or prepare an elevator speech to an agent or publisher;

MOCK RADIO/PUBLIC INTERVIEWS
Workshop participants gain real world experience by answering specific leading questions for those willing to come up and participate. (this segment will be videotaped with participants permission)

Questions such as:
- So, tell us about your book -
- Would you be willing to read an excerpt from you book for our audience? -
- We’re a book club. Tell us about yourself. Where did you get the idea to write this book? -
- I’m an agent/publisher looking for new clients – what have you got?

After each “performance” participants hear comments from our panel of experts and the  audience so that they get a  variety of feedback.

$25 for WSN Members / $40 for non-members

 

NOTE: Attendees are encouraged to bring an excerpt from their own work (500-1500 words) to read, and/or an introductory bio and pitch summary for their book or book series to read and receive feedback to gain supportive, real world experience speaking in front of a live audience.
